Greg bought a Yacugar SRS for his CBR125R: "I bought a CBR125R to race at the local GoKart track in the buckets, hoping to get the rules changed to include it (excluded because of single shock and fuel injection). The first time I took it out was a practice day. I thought I would be concentrating on the power and brakes and get some idea of what the handling needed. I had changed the tyres to something a touch more sticky and figured chucking it around would be relatively easy as it is light(ish).

Big surprise. Power was about a good base to muck around with, brakes worked reasonably enough to re-pad and they would be OK, but the handling... the thing wobbled all over the place when laid over. A good look at the shock showed it was very basic, so check it out when I get home. Removing the swingarm revealed rubber swingarm pivots which I immediately (incorrectly) blamed for the wiggle, so I thought I would have to get some solid bushes made up. Disassembling the shock showed NO damping (read pull the shaft up and down with no effort at all).

As I have dealt with Teknik for my other racing bikes (forks and springs) and have been well pleased, I talked to Nick and he recommended the Yacugar shock which they newly stocked. Sounded like a plan, so I did. Gave the specs of bike and rider and function to him and the credit card details and duely received the shock, sprung up and set to std height.

Straight in with no mods, but couldn't get the bushes out so I left them in for the next race. First practice... spot on. Full stop. The bike not only was now stable as a rock, but the wiggle had gone. Rubber bushes still in the swingarm for the time being. My girlfriend races it in Motolite (there for fun) and it tracks superbly and brakes even better.

And I am back to Teknik for help with my Kawasaki ER6 for next year. I wish I could fit a Yacugar but the rules allow only stock shock bodies. Maybe I could get the rule changed...
